Control Over The Environment
The Puritans, like Americans today felt they had control over their environment. They wanted more land so they fought wars with the Native Americans to gain control over the land the Native Americans inhabited. The puritans cut down forests to make more space for themselves and expand their colony. Not only did puritans control the land, but they also tried controlling everyone who lived on the land. The common puritan didn’t have freedom of speech or religion. They were treated as if part of the environment, and therefore seen as another thing for the clergy and other leaders to control.
