A value held by Americans today is getting married. This value can be traced back to the Puritans who also highly valued marriage. The main reason Puritans valued marriage was because it was what the Bible taught and they had a strong belief in the Bible. It was also necessary to get married to have children in order to prosper off of the land when they came to America. Marriage is a value to today's Americans because it is part of the American dream. According to most definitions of the American dream, one must be well educated, get married and have a family, and make a lot of money.
